Walk to Sinarades

Sinarades and back
 (7 miles round trip)
This walk takes you off and on road to the nearby village of Sinarades.  This is one of the biggest villages in Corfu and also one of the oldest.  It has a beautiful main church and houses the islands Traditional Folklore Museum.  Around 7 miles there and back.

Walk in to the centre of the village by the bus stop and GB's supermarket and bear left up the hill towards Sinarades (the way your coach came in!).  As you walk, you will pass the Pink Palace Youth Hostel and at the first hairpin bend, about a mile outside the village turn left onto a roadway/track signposted "Sinarades by foot" and Pelegos apartments.
Follow the track down keeping right and walk for a mile or so through the olive groves (watch out for a dog around just over half way down, it's normally either in it's pen on the left side or on a chain on the bank in the olives on the right).  The track begins to narrow and you will come to a point where it divides.  You take the path to the right (almost straightish!), almost straightway you will see a signpost to Sinarades, turn sharp right onto a donkey track that zig-zags up.  Many walkers during 2005 noted that this turn was a little difficult to spot, but said that it could be seen by the hanging plastic bottles!  
Once you have turned on to the path, take care because it is very steep and narrow in places can be slippery.  About 15 minutes of steady climbing will bring you out on to a roadway. Climbing up to the junction you will find on your left  "Cafe Aerostato" where you can have a well earned drink and take in the breathtaking view of Agios Gordios below. 
Continue walking inland, slightly uphill to start with but then down into Sinarades and to one of the only roundabouts on the island (and it has a Christmas tree in the middle!).  At this point turn right and begin your walk through the village, enjoy the architecture and generally sleepy feel of this village lost in time.  If you feel adventurous, try going off the main road and explore some of the back streets.  Finally you will arrive at the main square where there are a few places to sit and have a drink or if you prefer wait for the bus to take you home!
If you want to complete the walk, continue on the road through the village, look out for a sign saying "Traditional Folklore Museum" on your right. The museum is worth a visit and is open every day except Sundays from 9.30am to 2.00pm.  Continue on through the village to the main road.  At the junction bear right up a rise passing after 1/4 mile a petrol filling station on your right, a little further on you will turn a corner and see the Ionian Sea and Agios Gordios down below.  Continue on this road until you reach the village.
